With qualifications in Education and Professional Counselling, Sandra Norman has spent her 40 years of her professional life working in fields which combine those disciplines. She has taught at all levels of primary, secondary, tertiary, adult literacy and numeracy, special needs, as well as a teacher of English as a second language in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland in Australia. An experienced adult educator, she has conducted courses on a variety of topics during those years, especially with students who have unfortunately 'gone off the track'.
Sandra has great empathy for those suffering from dyslexia, ADD, ADHD and other disorders that impede the student from learning easily, as these students require extra time and patience on the part of the experienced teacher or trainer. As a practising teacher and trainer she has been able to appreciate first hand, the social and emotional effects of educational underachievement.
Sandra has created a solution to a problem she has observed over many years … the growing school population displaying difficulty in the accurate reading of English. She saw the psychological consequences of this failure in disordered behaviour, attitude problems, family upsets, unemployment problems and mental and physical health related problems. She also saw it as unnecessary and, therefore, as a social injustice.
An ever increasing number of children entering Year 3 in primary school cannot read well enough to cope with the rest of their primary schooling. By the time they reach secondary level, their confidence, self esteem and self worth are so low that they have great difficulty in coping with their school work and social lives. Poor achievement in secondary school leads to poor employment opportunities and a host of other social and health problems. Those early years are THE most important for the child.
The information in this program is designed to help students throughout the world improve the reading of English. The latest research figures in Australia show that nearly half the population have reading difficulties. Easy2Read2006TM has a record of making English easier to read for all ages and ability levels. It works successfully with those who may be dyslexic, are slower learners, have English as their second language, those being Home Schooled or anyone needing to improve their reading and pronunciation. It has been successfully piloted in Australia and is soon to be piloted in New Zealand.
Sandra has created this program for students of all ages, including her own grandchildren.
